So you’re feeling a bit adventurous and decide to go for a brisk stroll down the Lake Shore Drive bike path. You figure you’ll work in a bit of exercise, get some fresh air and have a great view of the city to boot. But as you are slammed with waves of rollerbladers, bikers and runners your picturesque vision slowly begins to fade. After a little kid drops his ice cream cone on your new tennis shoes, your great mood is officially is shattered. Try a real adventure with plenty of personal space with today’s Swoop from Wateriders. Choose from the following options:

  • $30 for an architecture or ghosts and gangsters kayaking tour (a $65 value)
  • $29 for a fireworks paddle on Wednesdays (a $60 value)
  • $33 for a fireworks paddle on Saturdays (a $60 value)

Tour Times:
Architecture: Saturdays and Sundays 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
Ghosts & Gangsters: Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays 7 p.m.
Fireworks: Wednesdays 7:30 p.m. or Saturdays 8:30 p.m.

Each of the three-hour tours departs from Wateriders’ Riverwalk pier and is led by an expert tour guide. For the historical architecture tour you'll learn about our city’s iconic buildings from the most unique vantage point around. If your idea of a good history lesson involves violence and mayhem, check out Shady Chicago: Ghosts and Gangsters of Hustlertown tour where you’ll learn about Al Capone and other gangsters’ influence on the city. And, who knows, you may even see a ghost as you paddle over a purportedly haunted river site. If you'd rather take the city by night, opt for the fireworks tour where you’ll leave at sunset, just as the downtown skyscrapers are lighting up and forming their evening constellation. Paddling out along the Chicago River and to Navy Pier, you can watch hundreds of mid-air explosions right above you.
